ABOUT
UCHIDA HÔSEI was founded in 1969 in a small, verdant village in Niino-Yamagata, Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture.
The founder was Sadayuki Uchida.
In the immediate post-war period, to support his family, he placed a sewing machine on the second floor of a cowshed and set up a small workshop with a few neighbors.
From there, the journey of Uchida Sewing began.
In the early 1990s, the Japanese denim industry experienced its heyday, with a surge of denim orders from all over Japan, particularly centered in the Kojima area of Okayama Prefecture. Factories buzzed with activity, consistently producing over 1,000 pairs a day. However, as times changed, many sewing factories were forced to close.
From the late 1990s onwards, production bases shifted overseas to countries with lower sewing costs, and domestic sewing factories rapidly lost business.
Uchida Sewing was no exception.
Sales plummeted to one-fifth of their peak, and we became the last remaining denim sewing factory in Tsuyama City.
Days went by with little work and no end in sight.
Nevertheless, the local craftsmen supported us, telling us, "We'll help you out with your domestic needs, so don't worry."
Uchida Hosei, who was once prepared to close down the factory, was able to continue its work thanks to the cooperation of local craftsmen and their families.
And after overcoming that most difficult period, an era came when "Made in Japan" quality was once again in the spotlight.
The value of carefully made and long-lasting items was re-evaluated, and work gradually returned.
Being supported by the local community and continuing to protect the sewing technology cultivated since its establishment. That is the origin of the current Uchida Hosei.
While continuing to OEM for domestic and international brands, we launched our own brand, UCHIDA HÔSEI, in 2016.
We pursue authentic jeans that can be worn for a long time and enjoyed as they age, while adhering to traditional sewing methods.
Because we handle everything from planning to production and sales ourselves, we aim to carefully convey the story behind our products and create items that resonate with our customers.
In 2026, our new base was established in Shinyamagata, Tsuyama City.
A wooden building, blending in with the local scenery, houses both a factory and a directly managed store.
It's a space where customers can visit and experience firsthand our craftsmen sewing jeans.
In the factory, enveloped in the scent of wood, craftsmen ranging from young to experienced dedicate themselves to manufacturing every day, and from this new location, Uchida Sewing's sewing technology will be passed on to the future.
